Tourism is the main industry on South Padre Island. Related businesses such as hotel and condo lodging, real estate, fishing, boating, restaurants and bars provide the backbone for the island's economic development. With an educated labor force, a business friendly tax structure, and comprehensive utilities, the island is on the rise! Each year the EDC has prepared the South Padre Island Economic Index. It is a composite index that also includes an Economic Index Methodology with Economic Forecast.
